Could you tell us something about what you do
I’m a DJ/sound engineer out of Harlem, NYC. I create sounds through moods that reflect off people. I tour and cover events such as NBC the Wiz Live Official After party, etc.
How did you first become interested in music
I grew up on all elements hip-hop. I was a part of different groups growing up which first led me to professional dancing, but it wasn’t my passion, I danced for Beyonce, and after that I told myself it’s really time for me to find who I am outside of dance, because I knew it wasn’t for me. The process of a dancer booking something like Beyonce was no joke, and it also helped me start to really find myself in music. You can say that dancing for Bey inspired me to do what I do and shine in my own light.
What do you enjoy most about what you do
I enjoy seeing people enjoy what I do. I love how I can make people move. I love how I can make people Feel, and of course I love creating something new every day.
What are you working on at the moment
I’m currently working on my third instalment of mixes I’ve been releasing the past few months. This next music project will be a lot different from the two I previously released.
What are the challenges in what you do, and how do you overcome them
Growing up homosexual where I come from was one of the biggest challenges. Constantly having to defend myself and cover up who I was, broke me. I had to truly grow and find myself, to live in my truth and accept what god had for me. The only challenge now is making more noise! But I’m well on my way!
Could you describe your personal style
My style is a mix of thrift and street wear. Growing up, my brother Franco Th3 Artist would throw the hand me downs my way and I was proud to wear it all. He was on tour with Rihanna and various artists, so it opened my eyes to fashion, especially since it was so close to home.
What is your present state of mind
My current state of mind is winning. I believe once you’re in this, it’s forever. Music is in me, and all I see is success from here on out.
What music are you listening to at the moment
The music I listen to ranges from Prince to Beyonce and everything in between like Michael Jackson and Dr Dre. I listen to every and anything that makes me feel good.
Which artists or designers inspire you
An artist that inspired me for sure, was Grandmaster Flash and Funk Master Flex. Both their stories and music did something great for me coming up as a New York DJ. I want to create a movement again for DJ’s and bring that feel good back.
What is the purpose of art, in your view
My purpose is to make people happy through the sound of music.
How do you spend your free time
In my free time I work on my craft, and think about how I can change the game. I’m always working in my mind.
