Sara Tansy, A photographer from Melbourne, Australia @shotbyletans // www.letans.com

What was the situation in which this photo was taken?

I took this backstage while shooting an event for Melbourne Spring Fashion Week – I couldn’t resist the infinity mirrors!

Could you tell us something about what you do?

I’m lucky enough to be a photographer. I shoot fashion, music, events and my trademark self portraits.

How did you first become interested in it?

While I was a model from 16-22, which really gave me an insight into the industry and to this day has been instrumental in my knowledge of composition and instinctive feel for capturing the shot I want.

What do you enjoy most about what you do?

E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G. *And shooting onstage at festivals – the music, the crowd out in front of me, the adrenaline of capturing THE shot.

What are you working on at the moment?

Putting together my first solo exhibition for the end of the year.

What are the challenges in what you do, and how do you overcome them?

Not believing your own hype, staying true to your own vision and not trying to please everyone. I just shoot exactly what inspires me now. Conforming your work to whatever you think people want will never work in the long run.

Could you describe your personal style?

Girly tomboy – Think red lipstick, gold chains, jeans and sneakers.

What is your present state of mind?

Pretty great, actually. Festival season is about to begin, summer is around the corner, and I just finished shooting Fashion Week.

What music are you listening to at the moment?

A 90’s hip hop playlist.

Which artists or designers inspire you?

Jarrad Seng, FKA twigs, Guy Bourdin.

What is the purpose of art, in your view?

To provoke thought, expand minds, and inspire feeling.

How do you spend your free time?

Taking photos, editing photos… I’m a true workaholic. You may occasionally see me lying in the park on a summer day having drinks with friends, but I probably still have my camera with me.
